Autonomous Sumo Robot

Project Contributors: Andy Tong, Aris Tsiopoulos

The goal of this project was to design and manufacture an autonomous robot with the purpose of competing in a robot sumo competition. The robot is completely autonomous and uses sensors to overthrow the opponent outside a ring. It was designed in SolidWorks. Most parts were machined and made in school's facilities.

Below you can watch videos from the sumo competition held at the end of the class:

Project Overview

Below you can see the design of the drivetrain, powertrain and chassis of the robot.

The robot moves with the help of treads. The design of the front drivetrain includes a variable tensioner that can adjust the tension of the treads.

All wires sensors and and electronic components were concealed by a 3D printed body to protect them during the sumo fight. The battery pack was strongly secured on the top for easy access in case the batteries need to be replaced.
