N-node Model

The purpose of this project was to create a model that simulates the temperature of a thick asphalt pavement under the hot sun. After an hour the sky gets cloudy or a car covers that asphalt region. The model allows the user to define the number of capacity carrying nodes the asphalt can be divided as well as the resolution of the simulation. You can view and download the full project prompt as well as the Matlab script through the links below:

The graphs below were generated for 10 nodes of pavement with a 0.1 fraction of time step as the simulation resolution. The simulation can be conducted with a different amount of nodes and different resolution.

This graph illustrates the temperature of each node as a function of time. It is obvious that the first node is the first to heat up the the first to cool down after the sky gets cloudy.

This graph illustrates the temperature of various moments in time as a function of the distance from the surface of the pavement.
